We all develop Habits, some are good, others can be bad, either way our days are full of routines and habits. Being able to develop healthy habits is vital to living a fulfilled and less stress full life. Guess what! It does not have to be complicated or time consuming as you might think.

Sitting up a flexible but regular routine for the most important parts of your day, it gives you more clarity, productivity, energy, and peace.

Why Routines

Many of the most successful people on earth say much of their productivity and success come from having solid Routines. Why? ?

Daily routines and regular habits actually support cognitive function and focus, and even promotes creativity. Routines also help with stress, improve mental health, lower anxiety, promote relaxation, that can lead to better sleep. ? It’s not a secret that higher 0stress levels and poor sleep can reek havoc on your health.

Let’s focus on Morning, mid-day, evening and bedtime routines! These are times of our day that are typically transitional, and can play key roles in your overall day.

Mornings

I get it! Mornings are many people’s least favorite part of the day, and it wasn’t much different for me a few years back. Morning set the tone for the Whole Day. So having a solid Morning Routine that set you up for a productive and peaceful day is absolutely key!

There are a few morning must-dos that have proven to be supper effective at kickstarting your day. Best thing is you don’t have to get up 2 hours early in order to get them done!

Here’s some great choices to do right away in the morning.

  • Drink a big glass of water
  • Write down top 3 goals or must-do for the day
  • Eat a healthy breakfast
  • Step outside for sunshine and fresh air
  • Workout or go for a walk
  • Do some stretching or Yoga
  • Say a morning Prayer, asking for direction for your day
  • Quickly Tidy the house

Take a Break

For many of us this is our Lunch Time, and while I have been guilty of working straight through this break it is important to begin building a routine around this time in your day. This can be as small as a 15-20 minutes that you set aside to get somethings done, it will look different if you are working from home (like I do now a days) or working from an office space somewhere, but it is such a turning point in your day. It’s an opportunity to change your mindset about how the day may be going.

Some great Break time activities are:

  • Going for a short walk
  • Checking in with friends and family online
  • Run errands
  • Enjoy some quite time in prayer

After Work / Evenings

If your house is anything like mine this time can be a bit chaotic, which means no one is thinking about a routine. A few years back is when I figured out that we all needed some type of routine once we come in from school and work, and that having a routine at this time made the night run so much smoother.

Here are a few things I have found are helpful:

  • Cooking Dinner
  • Packing tomorrow Lunch (hint do this while you are cooking)
  • Unload the Dishwasher (we run ours in the mornings)
  • Fold Laundry
  • Have the Kids do their homework
  • Spend some time outside
  • Go for a walk
  • Family Time
  • Reading Time – Before the TV is even turned on

Bedtime

Take this time to relax and unwind from everything that the day has put in front of you, but also use it as time to get yourself set up for tomorrow. Your Bedtime routine is what sets you up for a good night’s sleep, so it’s mainly about relaxing and calming your mind.

Here’s some ideas for building a bedtime routine:

  • Layout your clothes for the next day
  • Pack next days school and work bags
  • Write out your To-do List for tomorrow (or at least start it)
  • Skincare Routine
  • Read or Journal (or both)
  • Reflect on your day
  • Watch your favorite TV show
  • Do some night time Yoga

Some additional good tips to follow for a good sleep are:

  • No electronics 30-60 minutes before bed
  • No hard workouts with 1-2 hours of bed
  • Turn work off at least 1 hour before bed
